Beware Of Creek Dangers!

A few entries ago, I said I would tell you about a very scary event that occurred while I was rock hunting. This is a true story.
It was a weekday morning in late April. The winter snow of western NY had finally melted off. I knew the creeks were high, but none appeared especially dangerous to me. I know all the creeks near my home pretty well, and... Read More

Krusty The Clown Painting

Nothing makes a lighter mood in the dead of winter than something really funny on tv. For me there is nothing funnier than The Simpsons. I had to paint Krusty again. I had a rock that wasn't suitable for anything except for Krusty's pointed, outrageous, aqua hair. So last night as I was waiting for yet another winter storm to make it's way into... Read More

Comic Book Guy and Cletus Del Roy

I just cannot ever get tired of the Simpsons. They fascinate me in a way that nothing else does. There are re-runs on television that bore me to death. But a re-run of the Simpsons, for me at least, just keeps getting better.

The writers on that show are simply brilliant, and there are so many small visual jokes that you may miss them on the first... Read More

Painting Rocks In Buffalo NY

I know I keep whining about winter. And about running out of rocks before spring. But last night, I was lying in bed, unable to sleep. And I had an idea. Seems some of my best ideas come to me when I'm supposed to be sleeping.

Re-using stones. I have a huge collection of beginner rocks. These are ones I learned to paint on ten years ago, but were... Read More

Joseph The Guinea Pig Pup Dies

I tried the best I could for several days. Joseph the guinea pig pup, smallest in a litter of four, died this morning. I knew he was in trouble when he refused all his food yesterday, and would not take any water. Late last night I removed him from his cage...I wanted him to be cuddled by his mom, Alice, as long as possible. He lost consciousness... Read More

My Sick Guinea Pig Pup

Remember when I said my guinea pig Alice had her pups last Monday? Well, things went fine at first. I was watching pretty closely, and Alice seemed to be taking good care of the litter. She still is. But one little pup, whose name is Joseph White, was not getting his share of milk. I was (I still have to forgive myself for this) not lifting and... Read More

Growing As A Rock Painter

I love to paint fish. It's one of the larger categories at www.lanrocks.biz. Yesterday I painted another floral fish...it's yellow-green with red roses. I am very pleased with the way it turned out. When I first decided to combine fish paintings with floral paintings, I wasn't sure how that would go. But I am growing as an artist. And part of that... Read More

Brand New Guinea Pigs Born Today!

This is a very special day. My guinea pig, Alice, just gave birth to four perfect, gorgeous pups. Alice is a Tortie, meaning her coloring is patched of black, tan, and white. Her pups are tan, black, and two of them are tan agouti. That means the tan hairs are interspersed with black ones, almost like a woodchuck. These babies are so beautiful!... Read More

Strange Creature Painted Rocks

Sometimes the rock "tells" you that it just doesn't resemble one thing. Sometimes a rock will have certain qualities of a couple things. If that's the case, fine. Go with it!

One time I had a rock that insisted upon becoming an elephant with a dog face and monarch butterfly wings. I wish I had a picture to show you, but it was sold at the CCVA in... Read More
