A couple nights ago my teenage son was driving his friend home from our house. I was along for the ride , since my son has a permit and cannot drive without me. (I could start a blog just about that) Okay, so we're taking Brett home. Brett's mom does a lot of gardening and landscaping around their home. She happens to have something in her yard that's driving me a little crazy.
Yup. You probably guessed it...a big 'ol pile o' rocks.
Nice ones. too. They're placed just barely out of sight at the end of the driveway closest to the house. I reeeeeeally wanted a closer look at that pile. But I know that landscaping stones from nurseries don't come cheap. I knew I shouldn't ask if I could have a few. But of course, that didn't stop me.
I finally just asked, as the kid was getting out of the car this time. He said to go for it. So I got out, ran to the pile (if you could see me, you would question the "ran" part) and grabbed one. It was a wedge -shaped thick stone. I had seen the pile many times before from my passenger seat, and that stone was calling to me.
"Lin...come and get me. You know you want me. I'll be anything you want...I'm still here...Ignore the others, it's me that you want..."
As I was riding toward home with my freshly snatched rock in my hands( By the way, an ice-cold rock in the hands is a bone-chilling, ache-inducing item.)(I don't mind.) I knew I was holding a piece of Rock Pie. And it was going to look delicious. I might have also grabbed a perfectly rounded pebble that may or may not have been made into a gorgeous swirly-topped chocolate truffle yesterday. I figure if you're going to make rock pie, you might as well fill the plate with other tempting goodies. Later on today there might be another one or two stone confections added to make the plate look temptingly full. But those stones are from my own pile.
I told Brett when I took the rock that he could have it back. You see, the rock desserts are going to be packaged up all nice and pretty for Brett to give to his mom for Christmas. He thinks she'll get a kick out of it when she finds out where it came from. I really hope she likes it. Oh! I forgot to tell you what kind of pie it is...it's cherry!
